BOOKS:
There are books pulled and put on a cart for this project.
If you can not find your topic within these books, do a
search on our web catalog or on Ritter's web catalog to
locate a book of your choice.
1. VHS Web Catalog
a. Go to: www.vermilionschools.org/vhs/library
b. Select Library Sites
c. Select Vermilion High School
d. Select large CAT on the left and begin search
2. Ritter Web Catalog
a. At the top of our search screen, click on More Libraries.
Scroll down until you see a list of area public libraries
and choose Ritter.
b. Look for Catalog on the upper-left side of the page.
Type in your search term in the keyword search box or
in the Author, Title, Subject box.
c. You must use your Ritter Public Library card to reserve a book
in your name.
COMPUTER RESOURCES:
1. Gale Power Search
a. Get username and password from Ms. Hunter to
use this at home.
b. Access this database by
1. Go to: www.vermilionschools.org/vhs/library
2. Select General Resources.
3. Select Gale Power Search.
4. Choose the database you wish to search or
search all of them.
5. Choose the type of search you wish to do:
quick search, subject search, advanced search.
6. Choose the tabs at the top to see a list of journals,
reference books, magazines, newspapers avail-
able on your topic.
7. Choose the articles by selecting "full text."
8. To print the articles, look for print preview on
the right-side of the page. Then
select print.
9. Citing sources: The source citation will appear at
the bottom of the article.

a. Get username and password from Ms. Hunter.
b. Access this database by

3. Select Electronic Resources for Students
4. Select Reference and Encyclopedias
5. Select Access Science
c. Enter in your search term.
d. To print, choose the words Print View at the top right of the article
to prevent information from being cut off on the right margin.
e. The citation for the article is found at the bottom of the page.
You can copy and paste this into word.
3. Net Wellness
a. This resource can be found at the bottom of the Reference and
Encyclopedias page.
b. You can search Health Topics, Health Centers, and Reference
Library online.
4. EBSCO
a. Get username and password from Ms. Hunter
b. To access EBSCO
1. Go to: www.vermilionschools.org/vhs/library
2. Select General Resources
3. Select Electronic Resources for Students
4. Select Magazines and Newspapers
5. Select EBSCO Host and Secondary Search or
Professional Search
c. Check and uncheck the boxes for the types of materials you
want.
d. IMPORTANT: Remember to check the full text box.
e. Type in your search term in the box to do a basic search. Or, you
could choose to do an advanced search by clicking on the tab for
advanced search.
f. To read the article, choose HTML full text or PDF full text. If you
choose PDF full text, you must have Adobe Acrobat Reader
installed on your computer in order to read this file.
g. To print, please choose the printer icon on the top of the EBSCO
page in order to prevent information from being cut off the page.
5. ProQuest:
a. Get username and password from Ms. Hunter
b. To access ProQuest
1. Go to: www.vermilionschools.org/vhs/library
2. Select General Resources
3. Select ProQuest
4. Select SIRS Knowledge Source
c. Type in your topic in the search box. You can also do a quick search,
advanced search, or topic browse.
d. Click on "Clean Copy for Printing" to reformat the page. Then click
on the printer icon on the page.
e. To cite your source, select "How to Cite" at the top of the page.
You will be given examples to follow to type correct citations.
5. Cleveland Public Library’s Databases:
a. To access this: www.ritter.lib.oh.us
b. Choose Clevenet Databases on the left.
c. Choose from the subject areas on the bottom.
e. Enter in your search term.
f. If prompted, enter in your public library card number and the pin number (the
last four digits of your phone number or your month and day of
birth).
g. To print, look for the printer icon at the top left portion of the
database page.
