PSYCH/SOC – ORAL REPORT ASSIGNMENT

 

Major Project – Oral Report:

 

            By the end of the first nine weeks, students will have chosen a topic of interest concerning Psychology/Sociology to present a five ten to 15 minute oral report about.  The topics can be chosen from theories, people, issues, developments, methods, and social characteristics that relate to psychology or sociology.  Students may even choose to present topics that do not seem to relate to psychology or sociology, but they desire to make an argument for their topic doing so.  All topics are subject to teacher approval.  Outlines of report are necessary!  Mr. Lukasko should have one to look at while reports are being given!

           

            Evaluation of the report will consist of an attention-getting opener (10), knowledge of topic (40), visual aids (20), analysis of topic (40), use of resources (30), conclusion (20), question answering (10), and outline (10).  180 points total!  Reports will be given at the start of every Friday class beginning four weeks into the second nine weeks (April 28, 2006).

 

Research Paper:

 

            In preparation for their oral report, students are to prepare a five page paper detailing their research and analysis of their particular topic.  Evaluation of the research paper will include, introduction – statement of thesis (20), organization (10), Body – statement of conclusions, support for thesis and other conclusions, use of research (40), conclusion – summary of analysis (10), citing of sources and works cited page (20), and grammar (10).  120 points total!  Papers are due on the same day as the oral report is given.  A copy of the presentation outline and research paper should be given to Mr. Lukasko while report is being given.

 

Source Requirement: 

 

  1. One book.  Your textbook may be an additional source, but does not fulfill the book requirement on its own.
  2. Two scholarly journal articles.
  3. Two other sources of your choosing – must be reliable and valid.  Check with Mr. Lukasko, if you are not sure.
