A. REFERENCE AND ENCYCLOPEDIAS:
1. Go to the VHS library homepage: www.vermilionschools.org/vhs/library
2. Choose General Resources.
3. Choose Gale Power Search:
a. You will have a choice of four different databases to search within the Gale Products. – To use this database at home, see Ms. Hunter for the password.
1. Choose the databases you wish to search by selecting/deselecting the
Databases using the checkmarks in the boxes.
2. Type in your search term in the box (basic search).
3. You could also do a subject search, publication search, or advanced search.
4. Choose the tabs at the top to see a list of the reference books, magazine
and newspaper articles available on your topic.
5. Choose the article by clicking on “full text.” You can read and print
the articles.
6. To print the article, choose the printer icon on the page and reformat
the page. Then select File and Print.
b. American National Biography - This is an INFOHIO databae. To use this database at home, see Ms. Hunter for the password.
1. Go the library web page and Choose General Resources.
2. Choose Electronic Resources for Students and Reference and Encyclopedias.
3. Click on the American National Biography button and then click on it
again on the Infohio page.
4. You can do a quick search by typing in the last name, first name of the
person in the Search Now box.
B. MAGAZINES AND NEWSPAPERS:
4. Choose Magazines and Newspapers.
a. EBSCO – This is an Infohio Database. To use this at home, see Ms. Hunter for the password.
1. Choose Student Research Center 9-12.
2. Choose the types of materials you want to search by putting a check in the boxes.
3. Type in your search term in the search box to do a basic search. Don’t forget to check the box for full text located under Limit Results. You could also search by Topic or do an advanced search.
4. When the results page shows, you can choose to see all results, or choose to see results in reference books, magazines, biographies, images, etc. by clicking in the circles.
5. To read the article, choose HTML full text or PDF full text. If you choose PDF full text, you must have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your computer in order to read this file.
6. To print, click on the printer icon on the article page first and then click on print and ok.
Try out the other databases that have biographical information.
